Tuomas Holopainen | Nightwish | songwriter, lyricist, keyboardist
I once said in the description of one of my drawing: One of my own favourites among all my works... This, I like. That piece has 600 faves at the moment. Now dear people, I could say the same, except that this one is way better. But because the subject cannot ever match the worldwide popularity of the subject of the other drawing I refer to, I'm not expecting this one to be any success at all. Still, to me this is most likely the best portrait I've ever drawn and if I had to delete this one or that one faved by some 600 people, this would stay hands down. And the fact that this started as a random sketch I never meant to finish makes me smile. I enjoyed all the countless hours I spent on this. I liked working on it so much that at some point I stopped even wanting to finish it because that means I cannot spend time working on it anymore. I'm still not sure if it's finished... I guess I'll leave that undecided and give myself a chance to still change it if I wish to.

Pencil drawing. The full view is almost exactly the size of the original drawing.
And there was a reference (a promotional photo, so I expect this to be taken as just some extra promotion ).
I hope this does at least a tiny bit of justice to him.
I think it's rather saddening, and disappointing that the poorly drawn pictures of well loved people become far more popular than the well drawn pictures of unknown people. It was never meant to be that way... I'm lucky in a way I suppose. I really don't know many celebrities and have the advantage of being able to judge a peice of art by quality instead of subject.
This I have no trouble favoriting because of the depth in the eyes, the detail in the hair... all the little bits and pieces that pull it together stand out to me I don't know Nightwish (as you know) so I can honestly say I appreciate this drawing particularly for it's artistic value. I'm incredibly amazed as always by your fine details especially with the hair.
Once again. Beautiful job and it looks lovely dear.

I am not too familiar with Nightwish, but lacking familarity allows me to appreciate the work for what it is. This portrait, along with the rest of your work, has a unique and lovely ethereal appeal. And, as always, I will continue to envy your skill at hair.

I think it's very good. And I do think it does justice to Tuomas
Were the shades in the face meant to be so light? If so, the contrast is very big to the hair and all, which is a shame for the features, 'cause I think they deserve more attention. It's your choice of course, and I salute you for being able to get the shades so light.. I can't manage.
So ok...
Hair details just incredible... Face expression is like he's alive in this portrait and looking straight through your soul.
I can see why it's one of your most cordial works bravo!
i feel the same way about some of my portraits. this is lovely, and i dont think that having ppl fav your work is what gives it value..its how you feel when you finish it and know it's done well, like you've expressed. but it is nice to hear what people think sometimes! keep up the great work, i love seeing your stuff come up on my watch!
