Yes, I know I said no more WIP's... but just thought to let you know I'm still working on this. Slowly. It's still very much rough, unfinished and at many points too light, I guess... and I have to correct several things still. I have to see how much I can do without just making it all worse.
If anyone has opinions about drawing a background, please let me know. I doubt at the moment that there will be anything else but a bit grass. I'm afraid any more background would kill especially the mane and I don't want to ruin it.
It's great to see just how much you are progressing with this piece. I saw "Døle Horse - WIP III" this afternoon while checking on my watch list and the difference between this one and WIP III is enormous.
As for the background, I think it looks good without any, really. The drawing is so realistic that, without a background, it would look as though it's coming out of the paper.
that looks very like a highland pony i see at horse shows round here...the markings are almost exactly the same. its looking great!

"Leave them a flower, some grass and a hedgerow
A hill and a valley, a view to the sea

I think this looks very lovely. It's sort of a bittersweet picture for me to look at since it reminds me of my horse, which is nice, but as I no longer have her, it reminds me of my horse. -_-
BUT! It's amazingly good, and I really think that just some grass would be fine, because the mane does look very lovely, and since the horse is such a light color, a background I think would detract from the focal point of the image (aka Horse).

LOL, and no, it's not for sale, you're second one to ask that. I'm selfishly doing this for myself. I've had the refrence pic for so long and I've kept thinking about drawing it for some years and never thought I could even try. Now I'm hoping it'll turn out to be something I can put on my own wall.

People here seem to agree with me about keeping it without background. I'm not so fond of drawing backgrounds anyway.
